To fully comprehend God's orchestration of the greatest rescue plan of all time, would take a lifetime and even then we would not be able to realise the enormity of it all. Romans 5:6 speak of the precision of Christ dying for us at 'just the right time'. This is then immediately followed by verses 7-11 that try to explain how great God's love is for us, demonstrating both the legal relationship (justified and made right by Jesus) and the personal relationship this shows - we are called God's friend. No other religion can boast of such a God as the one true God we have.

At times we use the word ‘hope’ in a negative sense; “I hope we get there on time”, but we doubt that we will. We can have a confident hope in salvation with no doubts, through Jesus Christ, God has given us his Holy Spirit to confirm this. Through our trials and Challenges, through our journey of christian maturity, one thing that should distinguish us in our confident hope in our salvation.

Romans 6.22-23 states that we're now slaves to God instead of to sin. We might not like the idea of being slaves but actually this is a reason to head into 2023 full of gratefulness, hope and security because of the amazing character of God.

Our text for 2023 at St Andrew's Church is:
'But now you are free from the power of sin and have become slaves of God. Now you do those things that lead to holiness and result in eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.'
As we continue through the book of Romans we look toward Romans 6:22-23 we want to consider three aspects of our salvation: The past (I am saved) is our justification through Jesus Christ; The present (I am being saved) is our sanctification - being set apart for Jesus; and the future (I will be saved) when we are separated from sin forever and live in God's presence for eternity.
