If the first 7 beatitudes turned the world's values upside down for Jesus' listeners, then this final one is certainly no less challenging. In fact if we hold true to demonstrating the right attitude in our lives from the first 7 beatitudes then we will come across persecution for standing up for the truth about Jesus. The Apostle Paul is a living example of all the beatitudes being lived out for Jesus once he encounters the Risen Lord on the road to Damascus.Acts 9:1-16 and Matthew 5:10-12

The world has been at war with God since the Fall. The battle against sin continues, however, the end result will be peace with God. God calls up to bring His Gospel of Peace to the world. We must do it with the attitude of what Jesus describes in all the other beatitudes. It is then that the world will recognise us as children of the one true God.Ephesians 6:10-18 and Matthew 5:9

The sixth beatitude is often considered the most climatic one with the promise of seeing God. This is a wonderful promise for the future. It is also a promise that we can receive today. When we set our minds on what is true, what is honourable, what is right, and what is pure, then we will see God working around us and through us. The First Church hungered for Christ and Christ alone in their lives. Possessions and popularity were not things they desired and so they were easily shared or given to those in need. In contrast the last church mentioned in God's word, the church in Laodicea, considered themselves rich and in need of nothing, and therefore were lukewarm in God's sight. As a church today, are we starving for sanctification through Jesus Christ, or are we simply content with our own self-gratifying ways? - Acts 4:32-35, Revelation 3:14-20, Matthew 5:6
